Chances are, somebody has already tried to explain you to yourself.
My work starts before the explanation.
Shoreline Counselling & Psychotherapy provides individual, couples and family therapy online across Ireland, in English and Spanish, alongside independent social work consultation and advocacy. The practice welcomes both neurodivergent and non-neurodivergent clients, with a particular interest in neurodivergence-affirming therapy.
By the time some people come to therapy, they have already been given several explanations for what is happening, and none of them quite fits.
My work starts earlier than that.
It starts with understanding the person, their relationships, their history, their circumstances and the world they are trying to navigate.

Therapy begins with being understood
People's lives rarely fit neatly into boxes. Anxiety, burnout, conflict or feeling unable to cope often make more sense when we understand the person in the context of their relationships, experiences and circumstances.
We'll explore together what is happening and what might help in an integrative, relational and systemic way.
I bring warmth, curiosity and honesty to therapy, creating a space where you can feel safe enough to be yourself, and eventually safe enough to be challenged.
Understanding yourself in context
People come to therapy for many reasons. Sometimes neurodivergence is part of the picture; sometimes it isn't.
For neurodivergent people, masking, overwhelm, relationship difficulties or years of feeling misunderstood can take a real toll.
Recognising yourself differently can bring relief, but also anger, uncertainty or grief.
Therapy here is not about learning to pass better.
It is about understanding what is happening, what you need, and what you want to do with that understanding.
Your relationship does not have to look like everybody else's
I work with couples and with people in different relationship structures, including LGBTQ+ relationships, chosen families, open relationships, polyamory, relationship anarchy and other forms of consensual non-monogamy.
I also work with people who are questioning monogamy, renegotiating relationship agreements, or trying to understand the consequences of a change that one person may not have chosen.
I say this explicitly because people in non-traditional relationships can encounter therapists who treat the structure of the relationship as the problem itself.
That is not how I work.
This is an area I write and teach on, and I do not assume that one relationship model is inherently healthier than another.
If your relationship is causing you difficulty, we will look at the difficulty.
Not at whether your relationship should exist.
Testimonials
“I have worked with Ana as my therapist for over a year. She is easily the best I have worked with. She is very empathetic, understanding, perceptive and extremely smart. She is also kind, has a great sense of humour and is very easy to talk to and open up to, which is vital in therapy. Ana has a very practical and common sense approach to therapy which really suited me. I really look forward to our sessions, and enjoy them even when I'm not feeling well. I always benefit from talking to her. Ana has all of the essential traits and skills that enable her to be an excellent therapist. I would highly recommend her to anyone seeking help.”
